Brock Davis

I saw an interesting article on fastco, about the challenger disaster recreated from cauliflower. it's the creation of minneapolis's brock davis, who always seems to be up to something wildly imaginative. lots of other food art on his flickr stream, but my fav is the snoutlet. hands down.

national parks: america's best idea

if you haven't seen ken burn's national parks series, you should really do something about it. i'm not kidding you, episode 5 made me cry it was so good. episode 1 made me plan a road trip down the west coast on hwy 101. who knows what the rest will bring, i might even give camping another shot (i really love NOT camping). so much history of america that i didn't know about and the people who worked so hard to make it possible for us all to enjoy.

JR

we watched a TED Talk this morning at work. Inspiring to say the least. French street artist, JR, makes a wish to use art to turn the world inside out. I love the simplicity: paper, glue, b&w photos of people being themselves. It pairs really nicely with the extravagant and detailed application to landscapes all over the world. The trains are my favorite, the movement makes it more human.

lan su chinese garden

we went to lan su last weekend on the most beautiful, sunny spring day. and as J said, "it was fucking magic." a seriously amazing place so well designed that it hurt my head to think about the planning that went into it. we stopped at the tea house on our way out and celebrated easter a day early with our marble tea egg and view overlooking the gardens. i kinda want to live there. and on top of that, our friend mette designed the lovely identity, bonus!
