national parks: america's best idea

if you haven't seen ken burn's national parks series, you should really do something about it. i'm not kidding you, episode 5 made me cry it was so good. episode 1 made me plan a road trip down the west coast on hwy 101. who knows what the rest will bring, i might even give camping another shot (i really love NOT camping). so much history of america that i didn't know about and the people who worked so hard to make it possible for us all to enjoy.

JR

we watched a TED Talk this morning at work. Inspiring to say the least. French street artist, JR, makes a wish to use art to turn the world inside out. I love the simplicity: paper, glue, b&w photos of people being themselves. It pairs really nicely with the extravagant and detailed application to landscapes all over the world. The trains are my favorite, the movement makes it more human.

Intel museum of me

borderline narcissistic, sure. but that's kind of our culture these days. the museum of me is really well done, and, put a smile on my face.

small town girl

talking to my mom yesterday, she asked if i knew a girl named amanda hocking. and yes, i graduated high school with her. so ridiculously awesome to read about her recent success with her writing career on NY Times, USA Today, Hollywood Review, Huffington Post and more, launched through self-epublishing about a year ago. congrats, amanda!

amc rebrand

AMC has truly stepped up it's game in the last few years with it's original series and now a killer rebrand by jory hull and we are plus. i love the typography and energetic color palette. The fragmentation and repetition is such a clever way to capture film stills and indicate the motion of cinematography in action. beautiful.

"A purposefully raw and irreverent rebrand for AMC, strip-mining their archive of classic movie moments, stars and unforgettable lines for the purpose of endless remixing."

not only does he have the illest last name a person could have, kevin bacon is also in my favorite commercial of late.

NFL

never been much of an NFL fan (love my Gophers), but this commercial always catches my attention while I'm trying to ignore the manish buzz coming from the tv. it's also pretty cool to see how much the NFL logo is improved when it goes all white knocked out of a nice backdrop. Add that to a catchy song and a positive message and you've got yourself a homerun!

(kidding, I'm not that girly)

from russia with love

post-thanksgiving movie day! i'm a huge fan of old bond movies, especially the sean connery era. my mom and i used to watch them together when i was younger. funny how much bond looks and acts like don draper in this one especially. these opening credits are so great. i love the saturation of color and the movement of the type as it's projected onto the woman's body.
